I’m going to describe my dream home to you.
How about a great big lot that backs to a state park? Perfect for the kids to get out and explore, or just to enjoy the trees and nature from the comfort of my home. I’ll need 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and a primary suite on the main floor with a private bathroom. I’d love a steam shower and a jetted tub that has a view of the backyard. Double sinks and a big walk-in closet are a must, too.
We need space for our growing family, so 4 bedrooms upstairs with a full bathroom would be ideal. Two of the bedrooms should be pretty huge, and the others need skylights. The bathroom needs double sinks and skylights too. With those bedrooms we will need plenty of storage for our linens, and a cedar closet for that important stuff. Plus! A laundry shoot to the main floor so I don’t have to haul clothes down all the time.
We like to entertain, so a big open kitchen with an island, Cambria countertops, an informal dining area, and also a formal dining room for when we have company over. I would absolutely love a main living room with 20+ foot ceilings and windows from floor to ceiling to get a perfect view of the state park. If my sink can also somehow get a view as well I’d appreciate that. Our laundry room needs to be connected to the garage for when we come in all dirty from a hard day’s work/play.
We have a big family and things can get loud sometimes! So a separate room for gathering to use for music jam sessions, holidays, etc. is probably something we will need. We also love to read so a little library/office would be neat too.
When the kids need a place to play, I’ll want a huge basement room with toy storage along the entire wall to try our best to keep things tidy. With a 3/4 bath downstairs for when we need to rinse off after a good workout in the exercise room or after we’ve sat in the sauna for a while. We like to watch movies, so a room with some sound deadening to set up our home theater is a necessity. If possible, could that room walk out to a 3 tier patio? And could that patio have a built in fire pit? We will definitely want to gather outside with all that nature in the backyard, and where better to do that than a big ol’ patio!
I need a heated, attached garage as well, because even though we know and “love” the weather here in Minnesota, I don’t need to deal with the cold every day when I come home. I also might get an EV soon so a car charger already installed is an added bonus.
If it’s not too much to ask, I’d really love if this home was meticulously maintained for the last 29 years or so, just to make sure I’m getting a home that someone else has poured love into while they lived there.
Now, I understand all of this is a lot to ask and would need to be a pretty big place, so I’d assume it’ll need over 6000 square feet to fit it all in. With that much space, it’s a lot to heat and cool so let’s be safe and have two furnaces and two air conditioners to have all the rooms well covered. I’m also a big fan of fireplaces, so if we could squeeze in 2 wood fireplaces and a gas one in the basement it’ll keep us even more comfy and cozy in all seasons.
Wait? You mean to tell me this all exists in a house already?! Wow! When can I move in!?
